*Contains spoilers if you haven't read the previous books in the series.

I literally jumped up and down when I got the chance of getting this book early and I was more than thrilled when I got in my email box. I stopped everything I was doing and just started reading it right then and there. Less than a day later I am here writing this review of the closing book of one of my favorite series ever and it could not be more bittersweet.

"Being Alpha was a burden and an enormous responsibility, not a license to push people around.
And That was what Calvin Malone had never really understood."

Alpha starts not long after the events in Shifter and Faythe's Pride is getting ready to go to the Pride Council meeting, where they will vote on the new Head honcho. But before Greg, Faythe, Jace, Marc and some enforcers can go, they are preparing for a visit from Ethan's human and pregnant girlfriend, Angela. The whole family is nervous and hoping to make a good impression so Angela will let them be part of the baby's life. It was a great beginning to the novel and really emotional.

"'I can't help that. I love him, but I can live without him. I can't live without you, ****. Please don't ask me to.'"

A lot happens during the Pride Council meeting and more than once we get to see Faythe's life get thrown around for a loop. But, It also awesome to see how much Faythe has grown and evolved from Stray, not to mention that it is always fun to witness her kicking some serious butt.

I really don't want to give away any spoilers, but I'll give some tips of things to come:

*highlight the text in the box bellow to read it. {NOT too spoilery, I promise!}

Spoilers:

We get to see the Thunderbirds again
We get to see Elias Keller again (he is so awesome!)
I cried like a baby more than once =/
Faythe does make a choice between Jace and Marc
And the blood shed is far from over

I hope I didn't give too much away, but I have to say that this book was all shades of amazing. I could not put it down for a second and every line of it kept me on the edge of my seat and hanging on to every word Rachel put on paper. If I have one bad thing to say about this novel is that I wanted more, I wanted to see further in Faythe's future at the end, but that in no way stole away from my reading pleasure and just like real life, the end made it clear that even though the series / the storytelling is over, Faythe and the Pride's life goes on...

Alpha is a wonderful end to an extraordinary series that will be missed immensely in the Urban Fantasy world. Rachel Vincent brought something new to the table with the shifters series and she stole a piece of my heart with every single one of these books. If you have yet to give this series a chance, don't waste another second and pick up the first 5 books on it to get ready for the release of Alpha, you will not regret it!

Alpha Shifters Book 6 eBook Rachel Vincent Reviews

This book is the end of this series and according to the author Faythe's story is told and ended. I don't think so as there is much more to this story. The ending is rushed and I was completely unhappey with what happens to the Villain. Ms Vincent could continue this story and tell us what happens to Angela the human girlfriend of Vincent. What happens with the council? The war has been fought and the book ended up as expected with Faythe ending up with the man I thought she would but what happens to the other man who had to walk away. Sure he will have a job to do but how does he do it and does he do it well? Will he end up with a woman he can care about and love or will there always be that triangle working in the background? How do things turn out with brother Michael and his wife? Will she stay with him now that she knows what he really is? Sorry that is a spoiler but it's one of my questions. There are other members on the council who hate Faythe because she is a woman and doesn't intend to take "her expected place" in the Pride politics. Surely they will not just accept her now that the war has been fought. They resisted her too much to just now accept her without problems.
In my opinion this book was a total disappointment and I thought the author ended it with so many things left hanging. I suppose books (stories) have to end but this ending seemed cut off abruptly. Ms Vincent hinted she will revisit this world in short stories in anthologies but this is so disappointing to me as I would like longer stories not just chapters of each character's life.
I will think twice before I buy any more of Ms Vincent's books as I don't like disappoinment and investing my time and liking for characters only to not know the rest of the story and this is how I felt when I read the last page of ALPHA.
I waited until I read the whole series before writing a review. I wanted to make sure each book was read before I could voice my opinion.
My opinion is, this series had potential but never made it there.
The lead character is a despicable person. I absolutely hate her. In the first couple of books, I was willing to pin her selfish and obnoxious behavior to circumstance...the running away from home to escape her pride...I'd do the same, all the crap with Andrew...ok. Her on again/off again thing with Marc...fine.
But then the more of the series I read, I realized she is a completely self absorbed, narcissistic, birch. She only cares about what's good for her and how it makes her feel. She wants a birthday party but can't share the cake and ice cream.
Her treatment of Marc and his feelings is disgusting, she used DEATH OF GET BROTHER to screw Jace and then has the nerve to be upset when Marc is angry and hurt and wants to kill Jace.
Speaking of Marc, his character development sucks too. His caveman antics get old after awhile. The broody sexy I dint don't always get my way so I take off and pout routine gets old by book two. Why he can't wake up and tell Faythe to screw off, I'll never know. He's a glutton for punishment and it's exhausting to read after awhile.
Jace could have been a great person in the book but after him and Faythe have their "connection", it was hard to see him as anything but a sniveling little weasel who inserted himself into a drama filled relationship just to see if he could win.
I hated how the author just killed off people as she saw fit and with no real good reason as to why. It almost felt like she would think "well, someone has to die, eeny meanie miny...Ethan!" Why? Especially when his death was never properly vindicated.
All in all, it just felt sorely lacking. The concept was phenomenal, the grit was awesome...but in the end it fell very flat.
The lack of character growth, the rushed deaths, the plot holes and lack of resolution, the hurried ending...it was just disappointing.
